Sincerity: The Best Writer's Tone

Happy Friday!

Today's post is really simple. But it is important.

When you are writing, sincerity is your greatest ally.

Unless you are writing sarcastic jokes, you need to be sincere.

The reader will feel your sincerity through the words you use and the presentation style that you put forward. Sincerity helps you to build a bond with the reader.

Sincerity is the boat that will help you to cross the turbulent waters of writing challenges.

Be sincere. You will succeed.

Practical and Yet Pragmatic Spirituality: Om Meditation

Dear Friends, Colleagues, and Blog Subscribers:

Happy Sunday. This post is here to honor an ancient and perhaps timeless spiritual practice which, for me, in many ways, puts to rest many issues unresolved in other paths and schools of thought. This path is called Om Meditation. Om is the sound revealed by Divine Spirit to Himalayan Meditation Masters many thousands of years ago in deep meditation. This sound is said to be the origin of the universe itself and also the perfect sound-designation, or name, of our Divine Source, God, the Original (Adi-Purusha) Being. Om is just one word. It is easy to remember, chant, and contemplate. It is so easy, a young child can chant OM. The greatest scientists have said that if you cannot explain something to a child, then you do not understand it yourself. I agree. If a child asked me "Keith, what is the name of God?" I would just say "Om". Then, he or she would say "Oh, thanks, that is easy to remember". This is aligned with the idea of Occam's razor, where the simplest explanation is often times the best and most correct one.

In his book "Meditation on OM", the late and great Swami Sivananda of Rishikesh, India says that our Divine Spirit/Source, what he calls "Brahman" in the ancient Sanskrit language of India, is actually beyond name. But out of God's generosity, he revealed the name of "OM" to those meditating on Him. So, OM is our absolute connection with God. The Bible says in the book of Romans that "he/she who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved". So, when you chant OM with sincerity, gratitude, and thanksgiving, God blesses you greatly and protects you and leads to step by step to higher awareness. I would say this is true in my life as well. Even though I have had to face some difficult trials, I would say that Om meditation has led me to higher awareness and also has helped me to overcome fears especially of those who I thought were greater than me but in the end were just manipulators and not really friends. OM is the definitive name of God in Sanskrit. OM is the essence of words like Omega (Christ), OmManiPadmeHum (Buddha), Omnipotence (unlimited power), Omnipresence (unlimited being), and Omniscience (unlimited knowledge and awareness).

The Sacred Gayatri Mantra of Ancient India

Happy Saturday Friends, Colleagues, and Blog Visitors/Subscribers.

Today's post honors an ancient prayer of ancient India called the Gayatri Mantra. The word "mantra" is an ancient Sanskrit-language term that means "deliverance". In ancient Hindu lore (stories), the creator God Brahma initiated an ancient king "Rama" with this sacred mantra to help him kill a terrible demon called Ravana that threatened humanity. Rama won and he gave credit to initiation into the Gayatri Mantra. It goes like this...

"Om Bhur Bhuva Svah Tat Savitur Varenyam.
Bhargo Devasya Dimahi Diyo Naha Prachodayat".

"Dear God, You are the Blessed Spiritual Sun that illuminates all material Suns. Please lead me from darkness to light and lead me from ignorance to wisdom. Please free my from past misdeeds and allow me to abide in thy Divine Grace forever".

OM Shanti /|\ (Peace through OM meditation).

Occam's Razor

According to Wikipedia "Occam's razor is the problem-solving principle that, when presented with competing hypothetical answers to a problem, one should select the one that makes the fewest assumptions". The idea is attributed to William of Ockham (c. 1287–1347), who was an English Friar, Scholastic Philosopher, and Theologian.

With this approach to life and existence in mind, I have adopted the ancient Indian and Himalayan practice of "OM" Prayer and Meditation because, according to the late and great Swami Sivananda of Rishikesh, India, OM is the sound that honors all truth, in all ways.

OM is officially recognized in ancient spiritual writings like the Bhagavad Gita and Upanishads, just to name a few. OM is one word and one sound that can be said to be the Supreme Mantra and Supreme Prayer. When you say or chant or recite OM with honor and a sense of wonderment, you are honoring the Creator, Creation, and all that is Divine.

I like the idea that one simple word can meet all my prayer needs. I like the idea that I can explain to students and children that all you need is one word to become one with our Divine Source, Existence, Truth, and Being.

The Medicine Buddha Mantra

Right now, I am going through some challenges with respect to my physical health. Over the past several days, I have invoked the sacred mantra of the Medicine Buddha, one of the deities celebrated and venerated in Tibetan Buddhism. Because his mantra begins with OM, also from the general-spiritual angle, one can say that this being is an archetype and a sound-form of the Absolute that comes to us in this form for healing. Here is the blessed mantra of the Medicine Buddha in its original Sanskrit form.

Om Namoh Bhagavate Baisajya Guru Vaidurya.
Prabha rajayah Tathaghataya Arhate Samyak Sambuddhaya.
Tadyatha Om. Baisajya Baisajya. Baisya Samudgate Soha.

I honor the Supreme Being in the form of the Medicine Buddha Guru.
He has attained the Supreme and is one with Primordial Compassion.
I honor you, Om, as That Being. You are the Supreme Healer (Baisajya).
